For over 100 years, BYU Independent Study programs have touched the lives of hundreds of thousands of students and families. As we looked to the future and considered how to build courses and programs capable of delivering outsized educational impact, we reevaluated the foundational structure of course design and content.
In today's ever-changing world, it's about acquiring subject knowledge and developing essential skills and character attributes that empower students for real-life ethical decision-making and to find joy in life’s challenges. Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes (KSA) is our NEW innovative framework designed to foster a trifecta of mastery opportunities:
- Knowledge: Mastery of subject matter through integrated learning methods.
- 21st Century Skills: Skill competency, recognized and rewarded through digital badging.
- Character Attributes: Development of emotional resilience and attributes crucial for success.
KSA helps students understand why the content they are studying matters. Beyond retaining course knowledge, students benefit from acquiring marketable skills, developing valuable attributes, and enhancing problem-solving and metacognition abilities.
Here’s an introduction video to KSA.
